Louisville Metro Police say one person is dead after a fatal crash Thursday morning where a van hit a patch of ice and slid off the road into a utility pole in an industrial area of Watterson Park.

The victim, who police described as a woman in her 30s, was driving westbound in a Chevy van about 6:30 a.m. near the intersection on Produce Road near Petersburg Road, said a police spokeswoman.

She just passed through a viaduct and into a curve when she hit the ice and over corrected, sliding off and hitting the pole on the north side of the road with the driver’s side of the van.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Camp Taylor firefighters and Louisville EMS workers also responded.

Police believe she likely didn’t see the ice.
