KSP: Man crashes twice, carjacks victim during pursuit

Authorities said Curtis did not have a gun. No shots were ever fired, but the scene was enough to shake witnesses. "I was just sitting here like 'Oh my God in my hometown?' I've never seen anything like this," Matt Johnson said. After the pursuit Wilson, who is a solider from Fort Campbell, said, "Whatever he has coming to him he deserves."
At 2:45 p.m. Tuesday in Shelbyville, Jonathan Curtis was driving a blue 2001 Ford Focus when he ran a stop sign to turn onto Shelbyville Road from Hemp Ridge Road. When an officer indicated with his lights to pull Curtis over, Curtis accelerated and continued down Shelbyville Road toward Shelbyville. At this point Curtis crossed over into oncoming traffic, t-boning a vehicle at the intersection of at Frankfort and Mount Eden Roads, totaling the Ford Focus and injuring the other driver. Curtis then fled on foot and jumped into another person's vehicle in front of an antique shop. He allegedly told the driver, John Wilson, that he had a gun and would shoot him if he didn't get out of the car. Troopers caught up to Curtis and briefly held him at gunpoint before he ordered Wilson to get out of car. He then put the car in reverse and rammed a Kentucky State Police cruiser. The wrecked cruiser was no longer drivable, but Shelbyville police and the Shelby County Sheriff's Office continued to pursue Curstis, who drove until he crashed into a concrete barrier and fence on Hi Point Drive behind Rural King. Curtis removed some of his clothes in an effort to disguise himself and tried to hide in another car, but was ultimately discovered by police and arrested. He was brought to Shelbyville Jewish Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. Curtis is facing charges of reckless driving, first degree fleeing and evading in a vehicle, fleeing and evading on foot, robbery, and criminal mischief. Police believe that drugs or alcohol may have been a factor. The driver of the vehicle Curtis crashed into on Shelbyville Road was also taken to Shelbyville Jewish. There has been no word on her condition.
