Kentucky State Police, Post 3 Bowling Green learned of an aircraft crash which had occurred near Bewleytown Road in the Fountain Run community of Barren County, after a single engine aircraft struck multiple tree tops in a wooded area.
A Piper PA32 was headed to the Lake Cumberland Regional Airport in Somerset, a city near Glasgow, at 2:21 p.m. central time, before the crash, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement.
Hodges says the plane went through multiple tree tops before striking a larger tree, leaving a debris field about 200 to 250 feet long. The total scene spans around 500 feet.
Mayor Eddie Girdler of Somerset says the four community members were returning from a hunting trip and their deaths leave a void in that community.
Federal investigators say a single-engine plane went through a series of erratic turns followed by a sharp dive before it crashed in Kentucky earlier this month, killing all four people aboard.
