Pedestrian killed in Gonzales identified as 77-year-old James Grant

The person who was struck and killed last week as he tried to cross Airline Highway in Gonzales has been identified as James Grant, 77, of Gonzales, State Police said Tuesday.

Pedestrian hit by car, killed on Airline Highway in Ascension Parish

Police were called shortly before 8 p.m., and found that the pedestrian was struck by a 2011 Ford Escape that was being driven northbound on Airline Highway, south of La. Highway 74, by 56-year-old Rodney Marchand of Baton Rouge.

James Grant was attempting to push a shopping cart across Airline Highway when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Rodney Marchand, 56, of Baton Rouge. Grant was pronounced dead at the scene. Marchland recieved minor injuries in the crash. Impariment is not suspected in this case.
