Pregnant woman perishes in Pearl River traffic accident

A single-car accident on Interstate 59 in Pearl River late Sunday (March 29) claimed the life of a 19-year-old Picayune, Miss., woman who was eight months pregnant, authorities said. The adult male driver of the vehicle was injured in the accident, but a two-year-old who was restrained in a car seat was not hurt, police said.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m., a Chevrolet Blazer overturned along the northbound lanes of Intersate 59. The male driver of the vehicle was injured. Amanda Bankston, who was eight months pregnant at the time of the accident, died of the injuries she sustained, along with her fetus. A two-year-old child who was in a car seat was not hurt in the crash. Police are not yet certain what caused the driver to lose control.
