Two people were killed Tuesday morning after the SUV they were riding in was struck by a MARC commuter train in Baltimore, officials said.

The woman, 23, was pronounced dead on the scene after the crash, which happened at around 6:20 a.m. near the crossing at Hollins Ferry Road and Paca Street, a Baltimore police spokesman said. A 38-year-old man was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The occupants of the SUV have not yet been publicly identified as police notify their relatives.

There were no injuries to the 20 passengers on board the MARC train, which departed at 6:10 headed west toward the St. Denis station in Halethorpe. Baltimore police are investigating the crash, with assistance from Amtrak police.

Police have not yet provided any information on a possible cause of the crash.
The railroad crossing where the crash took place is the second-most dangerous in Maryland, according to the Federal Railroad Administration.

Hollins Ferry Road was closed from Langley Street to Huron Street because of the crash, according to the city transportation department.
