Second Frederick Flight Instructor Killed In Virginia Crash

Hedges says losing two instructors has been devastating for the airport. “The instructors definitely know each other. It has been difficult for them to see two of their colleagues die in accidents,” he said.

Virginia State Police say 49-year-old Bernhard Helmut Charlemagne of Frederick, Maryland, died at the scene.

Two flight instructors who operated out of the Frederick Municipal Airport are both killed within weeks of each other. The latest fatal accident happened this weekend, when a small plane went down over Virginia. Flight instructor Bernie Charlemagne died when his plane crashed during a training flight Saturday night. His student pilot survived.
