2 Dead, 1 Hurt In Wrong-way Crash OnI-70

Maryland State Police say two people are dead and one person is injured following a wrong-way crash on Interstate 70 near Hancock. Shipley says the male driver of the tractor-trailer and a male who was in the car were killed when the westbound car hit the truck in eastbound lanes at about 2:30 a.m. The truck then hit a bridge abutment. He says a female who was in the car is being treated at the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

A passenger in the car, 22-year-old James Benge of Fruitland, Maryland, also died in the crash. Police say 35-year-old Mohamud Ali of Eagan, Minnesota, died after the tractor-trailer he was driving hit a passenger car traveling west in the eastbound lanes about 2:30 a.m. Police say they expect to reopen the eastbound lanes by 2 p.m., nearly 12 hours after the crash. His mother, 57-year-old Kim Benge of Fruitland, was driving the car.
