William Sawyer Jr., 18, was also charged with impeded operation, operating to endanger, and obstructing an emergency vehicle, according to a Norfolk district attorney’s spokesman. Officers were investigating an accident at a 7-Eleven store on Washington Street in Braintree at about 11 p.m. Sunday. A 68-year-old Weymouth woman had allegedly driven into the storefront and smashed the window, police said. Sawyer drove by, videotaping the accident scene on his cellphone, and allegedly crashed into the back of a police cruiser with an officer inside. Sawyer and the officer suffered minor injuries, police said. When officers approached Sawyer’s vehicle, they allegdly smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the car. Believing he was intoxicated, they took him into custody. At his arraignment Monday, Sawyer was released on his own recognizance. He is to return to court May 21 for a pretrial conference.
