The collision took place off Pondside Road, not far from the town's DPW garage and near the edge of the Fannie Stebbins Wildlife Refuge.
Police and firefighters are on the scene along with Amtrak investigators and Massachusetts State Police. A police sergeant described the collision as a "tragic accident."
