Motorcycle rider killed in I-291 crash
A motorcycle rider was killed Monday in a crash on I-291 in Springfield, according to Massachusetts State Police.
The victim, a 34-year-old man from Springfield, was pronounced dead at Baystate Medical Center. His name is being withheld until his family is notified.
The motorcycle was traveling westbound near the Armory Street exit when it went off the road and struck a guardrail, state police said. The cause of the 4 p.m. crash is still under investigation.

The motorcycle operator killed Monday in an Interstate 291 accident has been identified as Erick Aponte, 34, of the Indian Orchard section of Springfield, according to state police.
State Police spokesman Dave Procopio said Aponte was fatally injured when his motorcycle went off the road and struck a guardrail. He was pronounced dead at Baystate Medical Center.
The accident occurred at around 4 p.m. near the Armory Street exit. He was heading west on I-291.
