Friend remembers Wilbraham fatal crash victim at roadside memorial

Police said the westbound car struck a guard rail and utility pole on the south side of the road. The car then continued west across two lawns on Monson Road, rolled, and three victims were ejected.
A roadside memorial set up Wednesday on Monson Road remembered Wilbraham residents Nolan Toski and Nathan Raffol, who lost their lives at the site in a car accident Tuesday night. Tanner Chapdelaine, who stopped by the site, described Raffol as "one of my best friends. ... He was probably one of the funniest kids I know." Police continue to investigate the crash, reported in the area of Bolles Road at about 8:36 p.m. Police said the westbound car struck a guard rail and utility pole on the south side of the road. The car then continued west across two lawns on Monson Road, rolled, and three victims were ejected. Toski, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene. Raffol, 19, died at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Adam F. Surrette, 24, of Springfield, is in critical condition at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Chapdelaine described Raffol as a kind of free spirit who was into skateboarding, art (particularly drawing) and photography. "He was really a one of a kind person. ... Everybody liked Nate," he said. Chapdelaine said he and Raffol graduated from Minnechaug Regional High School in 2013. Both, he said, "were always kind of different and class clowns." He said he felt the need to go to the crash scene. "It really hasn't hit me yet. ... I will probably never see another person like him." Chapdelaine said Raffol attended STCC this past year and planned to return in the fall.
