DETROIT (WWJ) – Police say drunk driving may be to blame for an accident that left a 44-year-old woman dead in downtown Detroit. Detroit police say a Southfield man was driving drunk when his Suburban crashed into a concrete median wall. The woman was a back seat passenger in the SUV and not wearing a seatbelt, according to police. The man was taken into custody at the scene for operating while intoxicated. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office will now determine if criminal charges will be filed.

The crash happened on the night of Feb. 4, when Glenn was driving his wife and Hatta Olivia Funches, 44. While driving near West Jefferson and Griswold after 11 p.m., Glenn crashed into a guardrail, said Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson Maria Miller in a news release.

He is charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a felony, and bound over for trial. If convicted, he could spend up to 15 years in prison.
