Longtime Saginaw journalist and wife die in car crash

A man who spent 40 years as a journalist at The Saginaw News has died with his wife after their car struck a tractor-trailer. Christopher Thompson was driving and his wife, Mari Zimmerman-Thompson, was a passenger in the crash Thursday in Saginaw Township. The Saginaw News says the 74-year-old Thompson was a columnist and copy editor when he retired from the newspaper in 2006. They were married in 2002, two years after Thompson's first wife died of cancer. Their art was displayed throughout the region, and both were members of the Midland Artists Guild.

Investigation continues into deadly Saginaw County accident

The accident happened yesterday afternoon at the busy intersection of Midland and Gratiot Roads in Saginaw Township, west of Saginaw. The people that knew Chris Thompson and Mari Zimmerman-Thompson are in shock and even more puzzled at what could have caused the crash. Sommers worked with Chris Thompson for several years at the Saginaw News. His wife, 73 year old Mari Zimmerman-Thompson also died at the scene. Sommers says Mari Zimmerman-Thompson was an artist.
