2 airlifted to Grand Rapids hospital after serious Holton Township crash

Life EMS, Fremont Fire Department, Fremont Police Department and the Newaygo County Sheriff's Department all assisted the troopers at the scene.
A man was driving a car with one other passenger south on Maple Island Road at about 6:53pm when he failed to slow for a southbound front-end loader that was in front of him and rear-ended it. The car slid underneath the loader in the collision, trapping the man and his passenger inside and requiring that they be extricated from the vehicle. While the driver of the loader was uninjured, both people in the car had to be airlifted to a hospital in Grand Rapids with serious injuries. The cause of the crash is under investigation, though so far it has been speculated that the slow speed of the loader was a factor.
