Van Buren County driver arrested after passing out behind wheel, police say

The OWI charge was the man's second within a little over a year, according to the releas.
A man was arrested Wednesday night after passing out and driving into a snow bank in Bloomingdale Township, Michigan. At 7:45 PM a Van Buren County Sheriff's deputy responded to reports of a vehicle stopped in the roadway on 24th Avenue near 38th Street. When the deputy arrived at the scene, a vehicle was observed stopped against a snow embankment. Upon approaching the driver, the deputy determiend that the vehicle was still running and in drive with the driver passed out behind the wheel. The deputy put the vehicle into park and woke up the driver, who reported smelled of marijuana and alcohol, and also admitted to taking various prescription drugs. The driver failed field sobriety tests and a search of the vehicle found suspected marijuana, a marijuana pipe, as well as evidence of the driver using prescription pills. The 49-year-old man was arrested at the site of the accident for operating while intoxicated and taken to the Van Buren County Jail.
