Sheriff: Vehicles racing down gravel road before crash, 5 injured

The incident happened around 3:50 in the afternoon on West Richardson Road, west of Lackie Road, in Colfax Township. (07-04-15) The Huron County Sheriff said two vehicles were racing Friday afternoon which led to a crash that sent 5 people to the hospital. The sheriff said a car driven by Mary Mattingly of Bad Axe lost control and hit a truck driven by Nicholas Redman of Elkton. According to investigators both vehicles were speeding down a gravel road. The sheriff said a passenger in the truck, Stephen King of Burton, was sitting on the ledge of the passenger side window prior to impact.

This is wrong, no one was racing, according to the kids. One of the drivers was trying to pass the other on a dirt road and tboned the other. They are all lucky. Bad reporting.

The girl driver had her drivers license for less than a year and she always wanted to go fast!
