Two children still critical after 6-vehicle crash on I-96

Police had already responded to a one-car, rollover crash just west of the rest area when they heard reports of a second collision about one-eighth of a mile to the east, sheriff's officials said.

A semi truck rear-ended a vehicle that was slowing because of the first crash, starting a chain-reaction collision involving four other vehicles, the officials said.

Twelve people reported being injured, eight of whom were taken to area hospitals, Detective Sgt. Greg Harris said. Only the children suffered life-threatening injuries, he said.
