Woman dies in Kalkaska crash

Village police Sgt. Glenn Artress said emergency personnel pronounced the woman, 79, dead following the Wednesday afternoon crash. He said a preliminary investigation found the woman rode in a passenger car driven by her son — a Kalkaska man, 59. It appears the man drove west on County Road 612 and approached a red light at the intersection with U.S. 131. "Witnesses claim he ran the red light," Artress said. That brought the car into the path of a full-loaded propane tanker truck, which had a green light. The two vehicles collided and the woman died in the crash. Artress said the man suffered "severe injuries" and was taken to Munson Medical Center.

The semi tractor was traveling south on U.S. 131 when it struck the passenger vehicle traveling west on County Road. Preliminary investigation shows that the passenger vehicle did not stop at a red light at the intersection, causing the collision.
