Four good Samaritans responsible for saving man's life following crash near Cloquet

Toms served on the Fredenberg Volunteer Fire Dept. for over 30 years before retiring, and says he has seen nearly every kind of rescue operation a rural area can see.
Sometime in the morning, Waller was driving on Highway 2 with passenger Mae Line when he apparently suffered a medical emergency, speculated to be a heart attack, and crashed his vehicle into some trees. It was then that three people, identified as off–duty firefighter Robert Zobel, citizen Lacey Silgjord, and a retired Fredenberg firefighter named Mark Toms, discovered the wreck and found that Waller had no pulse. They immediately contacted help and began CPR, and shortly Sergeant Scott Parker arrived at the scene with an automatic defibrillator, followed by a woman that only identified herself as a nurse, who provided rescue breaths in-between uses of the defibrillator. Waller is now in the hospital, in critical condition but alive, and his passenger, Mae Line, has already been treated for injuries and released.
