1 Dead after Single-Vehicle Crash, Fire in Cottage Grove

Cottage Grove police say a person was found dead inside a vehicle that crashed and started on fire early Saturday morning. Police and firefighters responded about 12:30 a.m. to the area of Innovation Road South and Highway 61 near 3M on a report of a possible fire. Police say they found a single vehicle had crashed and was engulfed in flames. After the fire was put out, one person was found dead inside the vehicle. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office is working to identify the victim and will work with Cottage Grove police on the investigation into the crash.

North Oaks man was victim of fiery Cottage Grove crash

Gordon Matthew Babbs, 52, of North Oaks was killed in the fiery rollover early Saturday, police said Tuesday. Babbs was found dead inside a 2016 Lincoln MKX that had burned after crashing in a field near Innovation Road and U.S. 61, police said. The identification was made by the Ramsey County medical examiner’s office.
