Angel Estudillo-Delgado, 21, Juan Diaz-Pliego27, Celestino Hernandez-Gutierrez, 25, Narciso Hernandez, 41, injured, transported to hospital, after their car leaves the I-94 roadway, climbs up an embankment and overturns.

Alcohol may have been a factor in a rollover crash that closed three lanes of westbound Interstate 94 in Minneapolis Saturday morning, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The crash happened near Cedar Ave. S. around 9 a.m. when a 2009 Dodge Neon, going westbound in the second to the left lane, lost control as the driver decided to exit at Cedar Ave., according to the state patrol. The car went up into the embankment and rolled, coming to a rest on its roof outside of the guardrail on the right side of the freeway.

According to the state patrol, Juan Diaz-Pliego, 27, of Minneapolis was the driver. The state patrol reports alcohol was detected on the driver and most of the passengers.

Angel Estudillo-Delgado, 21, Celestino Hernandez-Gutierrez, 25, of Minneapolis and Narciso Hernandez, 41, of St. Paul were passengers in the vehicle.

Hernandez-Gutierrez was not wearing a seat belt and suffered a serious injury, according to the state patrol. There were reports of at least one person being ejected from the vehicle.

Narciso Hernandez was the only person known to be wearing a seat belt.

All others in the vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries, the state patrol reported. All occupants of the vehicle were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center.

The crash backed up traffic on I-94 westbound from Cedar Ave. to Highway 280 for more than three hours. Vehicles were getting by in the far left lane. The three lanes that were closed reopened just after noon.

Road conditions were dry at the time of the crash, according to the state patrol.
