St. Joseph Man Sentenced for Hit-and-Run that Killed Boy in April

Joseph man was sentenced Thursday for a hit-and-run that killed a 5-year-old boy in April. He was facing two counts and pleaded guilty to the one count in exchange for the other count being dropped. Thirty-two-year-old Jeremy Brian Ulik pleaded guilty in September to one count of failing to stop at a collision, causing injury or death, according to court documents. Police used video from the school bus to find the vehicle. The boy was hit by the vehicle on April 13 as his mother waited across the street for his sister to get off a school bus.

By the time officers arrived, the driver had taken off and the 5-year-old had already been brought to the hospital.

Police locate driver suspected in fatal hit-and-run

Investigators were able to identify the vehicle and driver after reviewing video from the school bus.

Police found the man and his vehicle at his residence. The suspect “is cooperating with investigators,” police said in a statement.

St. Joseph Man Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash

Thirty-two-year-old Jeremy Brian Ulik was charged Thursday with two counts of failing to stop at a collision causing injury or death.
It was about 3:10pm when police received report of a child that had been injured in an accident on First Street NW, though when they arrived the boy had already been taken to the hospital, and the driver responsible was nowhere to be found. The 5-year-old victim was eventually pronounced dead at the hospital. We will add more details to this story as they become available.
