Fatal hit-and-run driver arrested

Leslie David Jones, 51, was arrested Thursday for criminal vehicular homicide, according to Albert Lea police. Authorities say 66-year-old Joanne Carole Kleine of Albert Lea, formerly of Mapleton, was walking across Main Street in front of McDonald's at about 6:30 p.m. Security footage from the crash shows him exit his vehicle and approach Klein before walking around the scene and getting back in his truck, according to the Albert Lea Tribune. He reportedly did not have a valid driver's license and told police he tried to call 911 but couldn't because his phone was dead. His blue Ford pickup truck, pictures of which were taken by a security camera and released to the public on Facebook, was spotted at the Motor Inn car dealership in Albert Lea earlier that morning.
