“Witnesses said the pedestrian was standing in the center turn lane of the street, waiting for traffic to clear to cross over,” said Tupelo Police Chief Bart Aguirre. “That’s when he was struck by the green Jeep. The Jeep then crossed over into the oncoming traffic and hit the Ford pickup nearly head-on.”
Gary Gilmore, 27, of Tupelo, is identified as the pedestrian who died Friday night on North Gloster Street during a two-car collision. Gilmore was pronounced deceased at the crash site from multiple trauma. The drivers of the vehicles are hospitalized at the North Mississippi Medical Center. James Anthony Holder was driving a Jeep Cherokee. He is in a medically induced coma and listed in very serious condition. Nicholas Courtney was driving a Ford F150 pickup. He is listed in serious condition. Authorities report that Holder was driving erratically before the crash, and that law enforcement ended a pursuit.
