Breaking: MHP searching for information after a deadly hit and run accident

MHP troopers believe that at some time during the night or early morning the female had a minor accident in her vehicle which caused her vehicle to get stuck in the mud. 

Woman identified in deadly Yazoo County hit and run

MHP Corporal Eric Henry says around 7:30 a.m. Sunday officials responded to Hwy. 432, near I 55 to a hit and run accident of a pedestrian.

There they found Susan Rowland of Canton, laying in the roadway deceased with trauma to her body.

Henry said, "We believe that at some time during the night or early morning the (victim) had a minor accident in her vehicle which caused her vehicle to get stuck in the mud. We believe that (she) exited her vehicle and began to walk up the roadway to search for help and at some point was struck by a unknown vehicle that left the scene.

Obituary for Susan C. Rowland

Ms. Susan C. Rowland, 67, of Canton, passed away December 4, 2016.Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Friday, December 7th at Culpepper Funeral Home Chapel; burial to follow at Sulpher Springs Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 am Friday prior to services.

Stranded motorist killed in hit-and-run

"She had a minor accident where she was stuck in the mud. She exited her vehicle, and we assume that she went looking for help, and during that time, she was struck by an unknown vehicle," Henry said. "We had our accident reconstructioners come out to mark the scene and possibly find any other type of evidence."
