Trooper Eric Henry, of the Mississippi Highway Department, says the wet conditions did play a part in the accident; "We continue to ask motorist to slow down or to avoid travel in this bad weather. We have had 3 fatal accidents in the past 24 hrs in the Jackson District. Again allow yourself plenty of time when traveling, speed plays a major factor in raining and icy road conditions."
At around 11:35 a.m. Wednesday, Tammy Hogan was driving north on US 49 near Braxton when her Nissan Maxima hydroplaned, jumped across the southbound lane, and struck a tree. Hogan and a back-seat passenger were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Bella Titus, 2, was in her car seat in the backseat and was killed in the accident.
