89-year-old trying to help crash victim dies after being hit by car

Authorities said Claude Porter, of Richland, saw the wreck and pulled over in the right lane near Pearl High School. Porter was hit by another car as he tried to cross the interstate, Pearl police said.

Claude Porter was driving on Interstate 20 when he saw a driver lose control and swerve onto the median. Porter pulled over near Pearl High School and got out of the car to try to help. Unfortunately he was struck by a car while trying to cross the interstate. He later died at a local medical center from his injuries. More information will be added as it is released.

Our hearts are heavy with grief, our condolences to Porter family. May he rest in peace, he will be missed.
