Two Holmes County teens dead, one injured in fatal crash

The two were students at Central Holmes Christian School. A statement on the school's website on Sunday said, "It is with heavy hearts the faculty and staff of Central Holmes Christian School face the coming days. Please continue to be in prayer for the families of Payton Netherland and Katelyn Winstead. Information regarding changes for our final week have been emailed to all patrons and staff."

We're told the F-150 Matthews' was driving struck a tree. March said speed could have been a factor. Holmes County Coroner Dexter Howard said both Winstead and Netherland died at the scene. 

Accident kills two students in Holmes County

Holmes County officials are investigating an accident that killed two students Saturday.

Katelyn Winstead and Peyton Netherland, both 17, were killed when the vehicle they were riding in left the roadway at around 4 p.m. According to police, speed may have been a factor, but the investigation is ongoing. A third teen in the vehicle, Sarah Matthews of Attala County, was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center with injuries.
