2 seriously injured when tractor trailer sideswipes tour bus on Interstate 70 in Blue Springs, Missouri
Modified Date:Mon, 02/22/2016 - 12:14pm
Accident Date:Monday, February 22, 2016
The bus headed from St. Louis to Overland Park pulled over after a tire went flat, said Sgt. Collin Stosberg, a spokesman for the Missouri Highway Patrol. A tractor-trailer apparently veered out of its lane about 10:25 a.m. and side-swiped the bus, which got pushed part way down the bank that runs along the interstate between Missouri 7 and Adams Dairy Parkway. The impact tore open a long gash on the side of the trailer that hit the bus.
All passengers on board the bus were taken for treatment. Two passengers were listed with serious injuries. The bus is a smaller for-hire coach that was en route from St. Louis. A semi-truck parked near the bus shows heavy damage to one side of its trailer.
"Pretty much destroyed the other side; took the side and then the people that were inside were injured," said Eddie Saffel, Central Jackson County Fire Protection District.
The Missouri Highway Patrol said the bus was on the side of the highway with a flat tire when a semi struck it, spinning it sideways and nearly flipping it over.
