Tire crashes through windshield, kills 23-year-old Independence man

Police said they did not have a description of the vehicle that lost the tire, but they did say the tire appeared to come from a trailer. Police say Melvin was transported to the hospital but later died from his injuries. Investigators say the car was traveling east when a tire from another vehicle traveling west detached from the vehicle, traveled over the median and crashed through the windshield and hit the driver, Nicholas Melvin, in the head.
