Police have arrested a person of interest wanted in a fatal hit-and-run accident in Chesterfield on Feb. 12.

Police have arrested a person of interest wanted in a fatal hit-and-run accident in Chesterfield on Feb. 12.

Authorities say 54-year-old Yelena Pelts, of Chesterfield, was in custody Tuesday.

The arrest comes nearly a week after 41-year-old Roy Joseph was struck while walking along Olive Blvd. just west of River Valley Dr. His body was found lying in snow around 7 a.m. that morning. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Physical evidence at the scene and subsequent investigation led detectives to a 2004 Pearl white Toyota Sienna mini-van owned by Pelts.

Charges against Pelts have yet to be filed and additional details surrounding her arrest were not immediately available.

Three people were dead and another was in serious condition following a fiery crash in Crenshaw early Sunday.

Authorities responded around 2:50 a.m. to reports of a single-vehicle wreck in the 2800 block of Coliseum Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

An SUV found at the scene had crashed into a tree and fully engulfed in flames, officials said.

A resident nearby said she heard a car speeding down the street just before the crash.

An Opelika woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Lee County. Alabama State Troopers identified the woman as Barbara Stokes Ray, 66. The accident happened around 1:30.

A preliminary investigation into the crash shows Ray was fatally injured when the 1995 Ford truck she was driving left the roadway and overturned. The crash occurred on U.S. 29 three miles north of Opelika.

The investigation continues.

For unknown reasons he failed to navigate a curve in the road and veered down a steep embankment late Saturday night. He collided with a roadway marking sign and a tree. Fire officials say the crash site was not found until Sunday afternoon. The car was located 30 feet down an embankment near the top of San Marcos pass.

A series of crashes triggered by an alleged drunken driver left three men dead and five other people injured, including a man who was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, the California Highway Patrol said Saturday.

The suspected drunken driver, a San Diego man, was driving north from Interstate 805 onto the transition ramp to westbound state Route 52 when he lost control, according to the CHP.

The vehicle veered off the right side of the road, careened across a dirt embankment and rolled several times, a CHP dispatcher said.

One person died and nine others were injured when a van plunged down the side of the 10 Freeway early Thursday.

California Highway Patrol officers say the crash occurred at 5:35 a.m. when the driver of a 2006 Ford Econoline van approached slowing traffic on the westbound 10 just west of Cedar Avenue. He hit the brakes and lost control.

“As the van left the freeway lanes, it struck a tree and began to overturn and eventually landed in a drainage ditch,” said CHP Officer Leon Lopez.

Three people suffered major injuries and six received minor to moderate injuries.

Authorities are searching for a hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a man on a bicycle in downtown Los Angeles Sunday.

The incident occurred on Alameda Street near the westbound 10 Freeway off-ramp around 2 a.m.

CHP responded to a pedestrian down call and found a body in the No. 2 lane of the off-ramp with no vehicle in sight.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as a man in his early 30's.

No description of the fleeing vehicle was released.

A 23-year-old woman died and two men were injured in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday, according to a Hoover police spokesman.

Hoover police and fire department officials responded to the crash, which occurred around 5 a.m. on I-65 South just past Alford Avenue.

A Ford Escape left the right side of the road, hit an embankment and overturned, said a Hoover police spokesman.
