Emergency crews were on scene at an icy patch of highway 64/40 Thursday afternoon after multiple accidents happened just moments apart. Just west of the Boone Bridge on westbound 64/40, a female motorist hit a patch of ice and spun off the highway. The vehicle went across Technology Drive, a bordering roadway, before sliding into an embankment. The driver was not hurt, and there was no one else in the car. While officers responded, a second vehicle hit the same patch of ice, causing it to overturn. During the accident, one of the three people inside the vehicle was ejected. One of the passengers in the second vehicle was injured badly enough to be airlifted in an unknown condition, though it was unclear whether they were ejected or remained in the vehicle during the crash. Officers were still on scene as of 2 p.m. working to clear the wreckage. MoDOT has been notified about the icy roadway.
