Woman who lost legs in accident dies

Police say the driver of the other car reported that she got distracted when her cellphone fell to the floor of her car. The woman was not injured.

Driver Lawanda Cook, 41, tells WOWT 6 News she had looked away from the road when reacting to the noise of something hitting her floorboard. 
55-year-old Joanne Smith, from Omaha, died Sunday, four days after her legs were severed in a traffic accident with a distracted driver. Smith had been hit by a car on Wednesday evening, January 14, while unloading items from the trunk of her car, which was parked on Northwest Radial. It has not yet been reported if the driver of the vehicle will face any criminal charges.
