Four people were hospitalized at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha after a driver lost control and crashed through a fence and into a tree Friday night.
Police state the vehicle was driving northbound on North 48th Street at a high rate of speed around 10:15 p.m. when it went through the stop sign at Bedford Avenue and left the roadway. The Jaws of Life were required to remove two of the passengers from the wreck. Twenty-one-year-old Mary Winscot was treated for a broken foot, pelvis injury and a laceration to her neck. Twenty-four-year-old Sharonda Wishecoby-Lewis suffered a head injury and is in the Intensive Care Unit. Twenty-three-year-old Nashay Perry was treated for a fractured pelvis and legs and 30-year-old Donte Longcrowe sustained multiple rib fractures and a dislocated elbow. The driver, 23-year-old Leonard Smith, was charged with DUI causing serious bodily injury, willful reckless driving, driving during suspension and colliding with a fixed object.
