According to Branch Whitney, a friend of the hikers said they were with a group of six people hiking a peak called Bridge Vista, at Pine Creek Trail. Friends said the group successfully reached the peak, but found trouble on the descent.
"The female started to slip, and the male tried everything he could to stop her from slipping, and her momentum took both of them over the cliff," Whitney said.
