The crash was first reported at about 10:15 p.m. Saturday, April 23, on Pyramid at Disc Drive. The initial investigation indicates a car was either slowed or stopped on Pyramid when another car struck it from behind, NHP said.

Cortez, meanwhile, ran away from the scene and authorities found him behind a nearby Home Depot, Hernandez said. Cortez was first taken to the hospital for treatment for his injuries and then was booked into jail. Investigators believe alcohol was a factor.
