Propane truck rollover causes delays on I-293.

A tractor trailer unit pulling a propane tanker became stuck on the snowy shoulder of Interstate 293 north on the Manchester-Hooksett line Wednesday, causing traffic delays and requiring extensive rerouting of northbound and southbound traffic for at least several hours.

Authorities asked drivers to seek alternate routes.

Police evacuated people living in several Front Street homes and in the Stonyview Way Condominium complex as a precaution. They were allowed back into their homes around 2 p.m.

The operation to get the propane tanker back on the road north of Exit 7 was expected to last at least three hours. Police said the tanker unit was intact and no leaks were detected.

I-293 southbound was closed after the Hooksett Tolls at the I-293/93 split and all traffic was directed to I-93 southbound. I-293 northbound was be closed at Exit 6; traffic crossed the Merrimack River Bridge and head north on US 3. Route 3A was closed.
