Kenneth C. Moeller, 61, dies days after pedestrian crash with driver Marcos A. Ortega, 33, on Route 9 in Ocean Township, NJ

At approximately 6:39 p.m. on Monday, Ocean Township police responded to a call of an erratic driver who was traveling north on Route 9, and the officer saw a vehicle traveling north on Main Street with a person lying on the hood of the vehicle. Prior to the accident, the driver, later identified as Marcos A. Ortega, 33, of Little Egg Harbor Township, was driving north on Route 9 when he allegedly crossed into the northbound shoulder and struck the male victim, and then continued driving the vehicle for 1.5 miles before being stopped by Patrolman Flatt. The crash victim, identified as Kenneth C. Moeller, 61, of Lanoka Harbor, suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where he was listed in critical condition. Ortega was determined to be impaired, the prosecutor's office said.
