A police officer was critically injured in an early morning crash in Lodi. It happened on Route 46, across from Christopher Street. The Bergen County Office of Emergency Management says a 2012 Ford Fusion struck a Bergen County police officer's vehicle from behind. They say the driver, identified as 36-year-old Michael Ettz, then fled the scene on foot, but was apprehended a short time later by Lodi police. The injured officer has been identified as Daniel Breslin. He was trapped in his patrol vehicle after the crash. After he was extricated by emergency responders, Breslin was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center to undergo surgery to treat a skull fracture and internal bleeding, according to police. He also reportedly suffered broken ribs and is in critical condition. Ettz, a math teacher and athletics coach at Lodi High School was also transported to HUMC. Police say he suffered minor injuries and was placed under arrest for DWI. The crash shut down westbound lanes on Route 46 as police investigated. Upon Ettz's release from HUMC, police say he will be brought into custody and held pending criminal and motor vehicle charges.

This officer needs lots of prayers if he is to survive better than Mass State Trooper Ellen Engelhardt. She was a vegatable for eight years after hitting her head on the cruiser partition, just like Daniel Breslin. Maybe - if he's lucky his injuries will be less serious than those of TN State Trooper Lowell Russel. He hit his head on the partition in a rear end collision too. He is ambulatory but has undergone several surgical procedures on his neck bones. These are merely 3 of hundreds of partition injured troopers and officers. NYC taxi regulators have gotten at least a clue. They are requireing cabs to be crash tested with the partition in place. My issue is coming to a head after 30 years of campaigning.
