A pregnant woman and several children were among the injured when a church group smashed into a utility pole in Pittsgrove, New Jersey on Tuesday morning. State police tell Action News that it was around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday when a Maryland church group of 10 was on its way west along Route 40, headed home from an event in Atlantic City, when the driver fell asleep. The van ran off the road and hit a utility pole. All of the passengers in the van were injured. New Jersey State Police Trooper Carl Kite explains, "The driver admitted to falling asleep at the wheel, ran off the road, struck a utility pole, and as a result the vehicle overturned. Several occupants were then ejected from the vehicle." Among the injured were church members from Glen Burnie, Silver Springs and Denton, Maryland. Five were treated at Vineland Regional Hospital and released. Four passengers, including several children, were brought to Cooper University Hospital in Camden with serious injuries. One of those ejected from the van is identified as Mary Jamison, who was pregnant and seriously injured in the accident.
