Giants punter unhurt in hydroplaning crash on NJ Turnpike

"I thought the guy was dead," Weatherford said, adding that he ripped open the back passenger door to try to awaken the unconscious driver. "I'm trying to gently hit this guy's shoulder and trying to wake him up, because a third car could easily come and hit us."

"Not only has God given my family and I a beautiful, healthy 10 pound baby girl. He sent his guardian angels to keep my car from flipping and possibly dying."

Giants punter Steve Weatherford survives rugged Jersey Turnpike wreck

Giants punter Steve Weatherford welcomed his daughter into the world over the weekend in San Diego, then flew across the country to join the team at OTAs.

The football player was miraculously unhurt in the 3:30 a.m. crash, which happened when his rental car hit a large amount of water on the turnpike while going about 65 mph to 70 mph. The car began to hydroplane, and the airbags deployed. Weatherford exited his vehicle and within two minutes, a second car hydroplaned out of control and struck the rental, which was totaled. Few details are available regarding the second driver. Weatherford called 911, and New Jersey state troopers drove him 45 miles home to Hoboken.
