Black ice was to blame in a seven-car pileup involving a police car on an elevated highway in northeast New Jersey Sunday, police say, but no one sustained serious injuries in the wreck. A car headed east on New Jersey Route 4 near Paramus Road in Fair Lawn hit a patch of black ice about 9 p.m., overturned and hit an exit ramp, police say. Shortly after, a Bergen County police officer tried to stop to help, but also hit the patch of ice and crashed. Four other vehicles hit the ice and slammed into the two wrecked vehicles and a third car that had stopped to help, police say. One of those cars hit a highway divider. None of the passengers involved had serious injuries, police say. The driver of the overturned car was in the worst shape, police say, but only had minor scrapes and bruises.
