Kristina Merrifield, 24, seriously injured, transported to hospital, after her Jeep collides with a car, driven by Ryan Jones, 21, on Tilton Road in Northfield.

A two-car accident in the eastbound lane near Wendy’s Restaurant closed Tilton Road Monday afternoon, April 21, and sent one person to the hospital.

The Northfield Police Department responded to a report of a crash on Tilton Road adjacent to the Wendy’s Restaurant and the Mainland Professional Plaza in the 700/800 block.

According to Northfield Police Sgt. Eric Dettinger, Kristina Merrifield, 24, of Somers Point was pulling onto Tilton Road from the Mainland Professional Plaza when the Jeep she was driving was struck by a BMW driven by Ryan Jones, 21, of Margate. Both vehicles sustained significant damage.

According to Northfield Fire Dept Assistant Chief Lauren Crooks, the accident call initially was for a possible extrication assignment. Crooks said when they arrived, the victim, although hurt, did not need to be extricated.

According to the police report, Merrifield was ejected from her vehicle as a result of the crash.

Shore EMS and AtlantiCare Paramedics treated and transported Merrifield to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Division, trauma center for her injuries, which were not life-threatening.

Jones was not injured in the accident and declined EMS treatment at the scene, according to police.

The Northfield Fire Department, Northfield Police Department and Shore EMS responded to the call along with Linwood and Egg Harbor Township police departments.

The Northfield Fire Department also responded to the scene and assisted EMS in completing hazmat cleanup of Tilton Road.

Tilton Road was closed for about an hour for cleanup and the Linwood and Egg Harbor Township police departments assisted with directing traffic.

Summonses are pending the completion of the investigation by Sgt. Dettinger and Ptl. William Cornell.
