Female passenger killed, driver hurt in crash on Route 55 in Gloucester Co., N.J.

Authorities tell Action News one female victim is dead and another hospitalized after a one-car crash on Route 55 in Gloucester County.It happened before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday in the northbound lanes in Elk Township.Images from Chopper 6 HD showed a light-colored sedan which had crashed in the woods dividing the north- and southbound sides of the highway.A large tree was lying across the front half of the car.Police tell Action News a female passenger was killed.The driver, also a female, was rushed to an area hospital. There was no word on her condition.The identities of the victims were not immediately released.New Jersey State Police remained on the scene.Stay with Action News and 6abc.com for more information as it becomes available.
