The suspect’s vehicle hit one vehicle from behind and then another head-on. Investigators believe alcohol was a factor in a fatal crash that killed a driver in his late 50s on Girdle Road in Elma Wednesday night. The Erie County Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the victim’s name as investigators are still attempting to notify next of kin, said Chief Scott Joslyn. Authorities have a suspect in custody in connection with the crash that happened at about 10:10 p.m. near Bullis Road. A portion of Girdle – between Woodard and Chairfactory roads – remained closed early Thursday morning.

Police have charged a Lancaster man with drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter in connection to a fatal crash in Elma Wednesday night. A 60-year-old man died at the scene of a three-vehicle crash at Girdle and Bullis roads that happened at about 10:10 p.m. The sheriff’s office initially said Zakrzewski was 54. The sheriff’s office said the roads are expected to remain closed at least until the early afternoon. Thursday in Elma Town Court, the sheriff’s office said.

Van Iderstine was a musician, a father and a brother who used his online profiles to tell his family and friends that he loved them. The day before he died, he had posted on his Facebook page “there are not too many people out there I don’t like.”
