A one-car crash into a utility pole in the 5900 block of Robinson Road at 4:35 p.m. Sunday is being blamed on speed and drunken driving. Michael A. Neuland, 20, of Saunders Settlement Road, was charged by Niagara County sheriff’s deputies with driving while intoxicated, moving from a lane unsafely, reckless driving and speeding. Danielle Little, of Littlestown, Pa., a passenger in the vehicle told deputies that Neuland was traveling at a high rate of speed and then put on the emergency brake, which caused the rear end of the vehicle to swerve. Then, she said, Neuland lost control of the vehicle, which slid across the grass and struck a utility pole. She told investigators Neuland had been drinking. Neuland, who was first found unconscious in the driver’s seat, was able to be partially interviewed at the scene and then was taken to Erie County Medical Center, where he refused to submit to blood tests. He was issued an appearance ticket on charges.
