Motorist Slows to Avoid Accident, Killed by Driver Charged With DWI

Ragotte's care was struck by a 2012 BMW sedan driven by Raj Jadeja, 34, of Brooklyn. Jadeja was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, second-degree manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter and second-degree reckless driving, police said. A motorist who slowed to avoid an accident scene on the Long island Expressway was killed early Saturday morning when his car was truck by a vehicle driven by what police said was an intoxicated driver. Ragotte had slowed his car to avoid the wreckage of two cars that had sideswiped each other on the expressway east of Sunnyside Boulevard, investigators said. No information was available about his condition or whether he had obtained a lawyer who could comment on the charges.

Long Island lawyer denies homicide charges in fatal crash

Jadeja's lawyer entered not guilty pleas to homicide charges Wednesday in Mineola. Jadeja, of Brooklyn, was indicted in December on charges including aggravated vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while impaired by drugs. Authorities say Ragotte, of Lake Ronkonkoma, had slowed down to avoid an accident when he was hit. The Hempstead lawyer is free on $275,000 bail. Jadeja's attorney says other reckless drivers caused the crash.

Raj should be prosecuted to the fullest extent. Than sued for everything he has. He killed a great kid. Raj was a lawyer to boot. What a scumbag!

So sad for his family, girlfriend and his friends. A drunk driver who is an attorney!!  That is unthinkable.  He should know better. Now this poor kid is paying for his bad judgement. The punishment should be severe.

There should only be one set of laws...there should not be any leniency just because he is any attorney.  If anything they should make an example of him for all professionals.

Just convicted only received 2 years. This is a death this negligent self-entitled scum bag  caused. What has our legal system come to. This lawyer and his wife have lived a charmed life for all these years. He gets only 2 years when black and Hispanic people get ten for a couple grams of crack- cocaine. He purports to help the immigrant community by taking their cash so he can buy xanax and crash into innocent people at 100 mph. Who did he pay off for this slap on the wrist. Hope the family of the deceased get his millions. Something tells me that money is the most important thing in his charmed life. Justice must prevail one way or another.
