Man on ATV killed in Bronx after hitting SUV

Witnesses said the ATV driver hit the SUV and was thrown from his vehicle. The quad landed upside-down on the sidewalk next to the man’s helmet.

A man ripping down a Bronx street on an all-terrain vehicle was killed Saturday when he struck an SUV, officials said. The man, identified by his uncle as Anthony Perez, 33, was riding the blue Yamaha ATV and trying to pass a Ford Explorer that was making a turn into an underground garage on Broadway near W. 259th St. in Riverdale at 5:30 p.m. Witnesses said the ATV driver hit the SUV and was thrown from his vehicle. The quad landed upside-down on the sidewalk next to the man’s helmet. Paramedics rushed Perez to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Yonkers, where he died of his injuries. Friends at the scene said Perez lived nearby and enjoyed riding through nearby Van Cortlandt Park. No charges had been filed against the SUV driver Saturday night.
