Saturday, October 4, 2014I-481 open again after crash involving tractor-trailer carrying candy
Traffic moved slowly along I-481 south Saturday while a handful of workers unloaded boxes of caramel candy and other freight from the FedEx tractor-trailer that overturned.
Interstate 481 completely reopened Saturday evening after a tandem tractor-trailer veered off I-481 north, crossed into the southbound lanes and overturned off the road. Around 1 a.m. Saturday Daniel Etters, 44, was driving a FedEx tandem tractor-trailer north on I-481 when it left the highway, went over the median and the southbound lanes before hitting a guardrail and overturning, DeWitt police said. Etters suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital as a precaution. Removing the tractor-trailer from a ditch it came to rest in during the crash caused police to temporarily close entrances to the two southbound lanes of I-481 between Route 298 East and Kirkville Road.
